Pay Attention To Detail?

You’re bananas if you don’t…

A few years ago, I stumbled across a job vacancy at a world-renowned video game company. I’m not going to say which one, but let’s put it this way, it’s a far cry *ahem* from solo developer Eric Barone.

At first glance, the application for a Digital Communication Specialist looked pretty standard.

There was a brief job description with daily duties, a rundown of qualifications you’d need (paying attention to detail being at the top), a paragraph about the company, and a handy button that linked to the online application form.

While I took the time to read through its entirety, I get the feeling that the more impatient applicants simply skim read before clicking the button to wax lyrical about how they’re the best candidate.

What they would have failed to notice in their not so attentive haste, is the all-important fine print.

“You must mention the word ‘bananas’ otherwise your application will be discounted.”

I have no doubt that a number of people would’ve slipped on this proverbial banana skin and fallen into the ‘pay attention to detail’ trap. They would’ve been so focused on the end result that they neglected to take the time to see what was actually required to be a successful candidate.

This eye off the prize attitude can also be found in radio adverts.

There’s nothing more jarring than hearing something being pronounced incorrectly, a music track that works against the theme of the creative, a voiceover that doesn’t deliver, or an idea that fails to encapsulate the brand message.

But what really takes the cake - and should come with time served in the advertising sin bin - is the omission of a call to action in an offer led commercial.

To have the entire advert dedicated to getting the customer excited about an amazing offer, only to fail to tell them how they can actually get it is quite frankly, well, bananas.

At Get Carter Productions, we pride ourselves on making sure we pay attention to every detail in every advert we create. Determining the right music, the right voice, the right pronunciation, and all importantly, the right message for your brand.

So, get in touch and find out why working with us is definitely not bananas.
