The Only Truth Is Music

Robert talks about our in-house music library, TOTIM, and how it can work for you.

Music – it’s incredibly subjective.

It’s an unusual phenomenon that people get so wound up about. After all, its just another artistic expression.

You’d never hear people arguing in a pub about ‘who was better, Caravaggio or Michelangelo’ or ‘that Mondrian is a bloody sell out’ (Well at least not in the places I go drinking). Whereas with music you could argue for hours on end about if the Gallagher brothers were just rip off merchants or if Wet Leg are industry plants.

Similar to following professional sports, it can be quite tribal and very much ‘us and them’.

Now, as a full service audio production company, we’re no different in our day-to-day work here, and there are almost daily ‘debates’ (arguments) in the office over music, that can be triggered just by a certain song coming on the radio. So you can imagine the amount of thought and effort that goes in to finding the perfect track for our client’s next project. We truly put our hearts and souls into everything audio related.

Despite all of the reasoning we can give behind the music, it can still often be a sticking point with clients. It can be for any number of reasons, but sometimes it will simply be that they just don’t like whatever we have sent to them. And that’s fine!

So this is where TOTIM comes in.

It’s our in-house music library, with over 4,000 tracks and edits by our in-house music guru, Mark Thompson. It’s our tool that we send to clients if they’re unsure on what music to use, it gives them a huge choice of songs, and the ability to filter by genre, mood and BPM. There’s a track for every kind of ad on there, and we’re incredibly proud of it. In fact, I defy anyone to not be able to find the right track for their ad using TOTIM

It’s already been tested on a couple of clients, and we’ve already had some brilliant feedback so far.

It’s made the process of choosing music with clients a lot more efficient – it means we can get on with making them a brilliant commercial and they can get on with their day dealing with their own clients and it removes any potential debates or back and forth from the process.

By allowing clients to be a lot more involved in this part of the production process, especially when it’s something so subjective, means things run more efficiently and everyone’s kept happy. Of course, we’ll still lend our professional opinion if we feel we really must - but it’s always refreshing to both us and the client to put the ball in their court every now and then.

Now, in addition to TOTIM, we also produce bespoke music and sonic branding, re-records, and licensing of famous tracks. If you really must have Hip To Be Square’ on your ad - we can do that too.

We appreciate that these bespoke options aren’t for everyone, and this is why TOTIM is such a brilliant tool for the majority of our clients.

If you’re interested in having a look at TOTIM, or if you’re interested in having your own bespoke composition made for you, please get in touch!
