The Northumberland County Show

Dancing sheep and monster trucks.. Call the Police, now!

If you’ve never been to the Northumberland County Show you might think it’s all cows, sheep and men in long white coats with rosettes. You’d be wrong.

There’s also Alpacas.

Get Carter Productions worked on the radio advertising for this remarkable one day event. How do you get over the amazing things that happen at the show? The animals, the dancing sheep, the live music, the food, the entertainment and the sheer scale of the event. The answer is, you don’t. You can’t! You can just give a little glimpse and suggest some of unusual events that set it apart this year. The challenge to the festival organisers this year was the Bank Holiday drizzle and rain, but the event still saw close to 20,000 visitors.

For my little boy, Alex, it was the Monster Trucks that ticked all the right boxes. You can’t beat a bit of 7 litre V-8 car crushing power! And Big Pete certainly delivered on the day.

Alex also loved dressing up. He was a Roman soldier, fireman and a policeman.

Would he ever get the image out of his head of his dad, handcuffed in the back of a police van?

By the end of the day he was so tired that he instantly drifted off to sleep in his car seat… Muttering something about how, next year, he would like to take in some more of the agricultural displays and experience the tug of war first hand.

And ice cream… there’s always ice cream.
